must be 50 years old at least. I remember filling it with clay as a kid to weigh the plastic pieces down, per dad's direction.

But now that I'm playing chess online, and have the board on a turntable so I can play white and black easily, I have kept knocking over the occasional piece, to the point where its been a real annoyance so that I decided I had to get a magnetized board.

the pieces are wood carved and, at least to me, have a lovely feel to them when held. The pieces are moderately large and carved in a classic style that I find quite attractive. no more scrambling to find pieces I've knocked to the floor. Unlike so many of the items bought today, there is a real quality and feel of craftmanship to this set.

The set folds in half so that it can fit into the box it comes in. Personally, I would have preferred a solid board for the chess pieces to sit on but that is by no means a dealbreaker for me. Also, the magnetic chess pieces will have a tendency to attract one another if you stack them too close off the board so I give them a little more space between them than I would for an ordinary chess piece.

It's really rather classy. On the box itself it says "Exquisite artisan carved chess" and its an accurate statement! Inside the box, aside from the pieces fit into snug fitting styrofoam, is a small booklet of chess instructions.

I keep my chess pieces always out and on the board, but they would be easy and "safe" to travel with in their styrofoam holders if one were so inclined to take them on a trip. The booklet is only suitable for the very beginner as it is extremely basic and is 9 pages long.

There is also a small pamphlet with cleaning instructions, a postcard with a chess theme, and what they title as an "international warranty". Not sure exactly what the latter means. But all in all even the box itself had the feel that a lot of attention had been paid to it by the seller.

So I hope my review doesn't sound to good to be true, but I REALLY like this set. I only wrote this review because I feel I got a great deal on this by a seller who knows and appreciates chess and deserves some recognition for the craftmanship.

Now, if it will only help me beat my adult children who are starting to more routinely beat their dear old Dad! This Chess Set by Amerous is a bit pricey, but when you think about what you are getting its really worth it.

It is a 15"x15" Folding Magnetic Wooden chess set that is in of itself a case that you can keep all your pieces in. The outside is completely wooden and beautifully colored chess board, which folds out flat, and has hinges to keep it shut when you are not using it.

I do wish that it had a handle, which would make it much easier to carry around but it is not necessary. The only other thing I wish it had was some clear coat on the outside of the set itself. Again unnecessary, however it would make it look very nice and protect it.

we noticed after the first time playing with it we already had a scratch on the board surface. The pieces are beautifully cut and similar color to the board itself. The pieces do have clear coat on them.

The cool thing about this set is the fact that they are magnetized! The board must have some metal on it, and the pieces all have magnets on the bottom which help them stay on the board without moving or being accidentally pushed off. I do wish the magnets were a big stronger, but you can tilt the board at around a 45 degree angle before the pieces start sliding off the board.

This is great because it will be able to easily withstand an accidental bump or something without moving the pieces and ruining your game. I love the fact that the inside of the set has a foam insert with specific areas cut out for each piece, however my foam is a tiny bit warped and makes a slight upward curve, no big deal though.

This is a very nice set, and would make a great home set or a set to give as a present, I am even thinking of getting one for my brother for his birthday! The media could not be loaded. I purchased this Chess Set for my 16 year old son. I am a teacher and my students love this set!
